Bílý Potok
The village of Bílý Potok is situated at an altitude of 430 metres, along the banks of the Smědá River, which flows down the slopes of the Jizera Mountains. The first mention of the village dates back to the 15th century. Today it spans the area of 18.21 square kilometres and its broader administrative territory includes is the popular gate to the Jizera Mountains, Smědava.
Its geographical position makes the village an ideal starting point for trips to the mountains and to the Frýdlant area. Located near the municipal office are the post office and grocery store, and visitors can take advantage of several accommodation facilities and eateries. The village features a church with a restored clockwork and a school with a publicly accessible playground. There is also a hiking trail for children, which is included in the nationwide “Trips with a riddle” system.
Transport services include buses and trains, even though the railway line does not pass directly through the village. The railway station is located approximately 200 metres from the village boundary. Road 290 from Frýdlant to Smědava and further to Desná passes through the village. Part of the road in the section near the Souš reservoir is open for cars only during the summer season and closed in the winter months. Tourists and cyclists heading to the mountains can use the car park near the Smědava mountain lodge.
A popular destination for visitors to Bílý Potok is the Jizera Mountains Technical Museum located in the former textile factory. The museum is divided into four sections: energy industry, aviation technology, aviation accidents and textile production. Mountain lodges are also an interesting phenomenon of the area. One of the oldest mountain lodges in the Jizera Mountains, Hubertka, with the nearby Kočičí kameny (Cat Stones) lookout point is located within the territory of the village, as well as the Bártlova bouda and Krakonoš lodges.
