From castle to castle

A half-day trip from Oldřichov v Hájích to Frýdlant, taking in the Rock Castle, the chateau brewery and a forest nature trail.

The Jizera Mountain Beech Forest National Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful places in the region. You can savour the beauty of this lovely place on a walk to the Rock Castle, from where you get some gorgeous views of the whole of the Frýdlant region. Starting in the mountains, the route takes you to the foothills, to see a restored Way of the Cross on Křížový vrch hill in Frýdlant, which offers stunning views of Frýdlant Castle and Chateau. Take a walk from one castle to another!



Rock Castle - a massive rock on which a rock fortress was built in the 14th century to guard the trade route leading across the mountains. It collapsed or was destroyed probably in the 16th century.


Frýdlant Chateau Brewery – Visit the renovated Chateau Brewery and try a glass of Albrecht beer. The first record of the tradition of brewing beer in Frýdlant dates back to 1381, and from the 16th century the local noble brewery evidently stood on the same site as the modern-day brewery we see today.


Frýdlant Castle and Chateau – Frýdlant Castle and Chateau stands on a basalt rock above the Smědá River. The complex consists of a mediaeval castle and a Renaissance chateau and is one of the finest heritage sites in the country.


Forest nature trail – The newly renovated nature trail in Frýdlant leads through a nature reserve. The original forest trail, built in 1843, was 1 km long and connected with the chateau grounds with the Way of the Cross.


Way of the Cross on Křížový vrch hill – The Way of the Cross, built back in 1737, was restored in 2017. it consists of fourteen stops, the Tomb of the Holy Sepulchre, a spring and a hermitage.
